Lauren Beverley Gorrie

Contemporary Artist | Digital Illustration, Film, Collage, Photography, Painting & Printmaking

Lauren Beverley is a 30-year-old contemporary artist whose work delves into the complexities of mental health, chronic illness, and emotional expression. Specializing in digital illustration, Lauren’s art is an intimate exploration of personal suffering and resilience, providing a voice for those grappling with their own struggles and helping them find connection within their experiences.

Having been a practicing artist since the age of 18, Lauren’s creative journey began in her youth. As a rather lonely child, surrounded by people yet feeling isolated and adrift, she turned inward and found solace in her imagination. These early feelings of being an outcast, of being what you could call "the ultimate outsider," fuelled her desire to create. Art became her sanctuary, and it is from this deeply personal space that her work continues to evolve. Drawing from her own experiences with mental health and chronic illness, Lauren Beverley’s work is rooted in emotional vulnerability, offering a cathartic and empathetic space for others who may feel just as unseen.

Lauren’s practice is not confined to one medium. While she is best known for her digital illustration, which serves as her primary mode of expression, she has also experimented with film, digital photography, painting, collage and printmaking. Each medium allows her to explore different facets of the human condition, from the quiet introspection of mental illness to the chaotic realities of chronic physical health challenges. Her art reflects her ongoing pursuit to uncover and communicate complex, deeply personal narratives that are often marginalized or misunderstood.

Through her work, Lauren aims to help others find solace in their struggles. Her pieces are a form of visual storytelling, offering the vulnerable message that no one is truly alone in their pain. With a focus on emotional expression, Beverley strives to create artwork that resonates with those experiencing similar struggles, allowing them to see their own narratives reflected in her work. Whether it’s through the fluid lines and evocative colour palettes of her illustrations or the emotive storytelling in her films and beautiful landscape photographs, Lauren’s art is a testament to the power of creative expression in healing and self-discovery.

As she continues to evolve as an artist, Lauren remains dedicated to using her practice as a platform for mental health advocacy and to help individuals find their place in the world. Her work is not just a reflection of her own journey but a message of support and solidarity for anyone navigating the complexities of emotional and physical health.
